Yesterday, October 7 became known the names of those who got the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The prestigious award was awarded for the study of mechanisms of DNA "repairing".

The prize went to an international team of researchers: Swedish scientist Thomas Lindahl (Tomas Lindahl), American Paul Modric (Paul Modrich) and US citizen of Turkish origin Sanjar Aziz (Aziz Sancar). The corresponding decision appeared on the official site of the award Nobelprize.org.

In the center of the work of scientists turned repair mechanisms, or repairing DNA. Every day, our DNA is faced with all sorts of injuries. "If they remain uncorrected, our genetic material would now be slightly similar to the one that was in the very first cell of our body," - explained the Nobel Committee. It is the special function of the cells, which is used for elimination of chemical damage and breaks in DNA molecules.

Swede Thomas Lindahl showed the world how exposed the cells to different damage. Aziz Sanjar identified a cellular mechanism as cutting nucleotides. Sex Modric, in turn, detected cell feature by which the process dividing corrects errors in DNA. In general, the opening will allow a better understanding of some of the functions of cells. And in the future it will help create more effective drugs against cancer.
